Sandra Smykalla’s dissertation, published in 2010, offers detailed insights into the work of gender trainers in the context of the implementation of gender mainstreaming. The main finding of this qualitative interview study is that gender trainers need to have both gender competence and ambivalence competence if they do not want to risk revitalizing gender inequalities and gender stereotypes. Smykalla’s demand for the (re-) politicization of the field of gender-oriented training is convincing and her recourse to intersectionally oriented methodologies illustrates a first starting point.Downloads
