The timing of Katja Herick’s dissertation is perfect, since it fosters the virulent discussions about gender and/or diversity and the political controversies regarding the ‘right’ women’s quota for executive positions in private sector enterprises with an ethnographic case study on a German company, which handles gender equality politics in an exemplary manner. With the theoretical framing through neoinstitutionalism and constructivist gender studies, the author shows that, in the analyzed company, the gender equality norm is at best loosely liked and institutionalized concurrently on the levels of mission statement, formal structure, and everyday work. Unfortunately, the lack of methodological reflexivity and the rather reader-unfriendly design and format of this extensive text reduce the possible gain of insights considerably.Downloads
