This anthology offers a good overview on the variety of subject areas, which the cultural studies field of ‘masculinity studies’ is currently devoted to. In addition to theoretical texts, the reader finds reports from numerous smaller research projects, which try to solve the mystery of the construction of masculinity, among others through the analysis of gender representations in computer games, in literary analysis, in psychoanalysis, or in movie reviews. They all act on the assumption of the fragility of masculinity: masculinity seems to be something that becomes fragile once it is separated from the heteronormative binary conception of gender and appears in a ‘different’ way than hegemonic perceptions prescribe.Downloads
