Bona Peiser (1864-1929), the first female librarian in Germany, did not only develop a new circulation system for libraries but she also devoted herself intensively to questions of the training of female librarians as well as to women in employment in general. In the present biography, Frauke Mahrt-Thomsen traces the major role that Peiser played in the development of reading rooms in Germany and consequently offers, in addition to an insight into Bona Peiser’s work and action, a profound overview of the development of the German library system.Downloads
