The editors of this volume follow a clear goal: they want to establish the category of masculinity as an analytic perspective on National Socialism and its crimes in the field of historical studies. In the process they highlight a glaring need for research: how could this field be ignored for such a long time, if the connection between masculinity and violence has been frequently pointed out in other fields? In order to close this gap, the volume covers a broad range of topics, poignant questions and facetted contributions. Only the attempt to transfer Connell’s concept of “hegemonic masculinity” from sociology to their own field raises issues.Downloads
