On the 28th of November, 1783, the 24-year old maidservant Johanna Catharina Höhn was executed for the murder of her new-born child. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was significantly involved in the death sentencing as a member of the advisory body of Carl Gustav, the Duke of Weimar. In his text, Rüdiger Scholz very critically condemns Goethe reception that has, up to the present day, idealized and searched for justification for Goethe’s hand in Johanna Catharina Höhn’s fate.Downloads
