In his dissertation, compiled with great detail based on numerous patient files, Christoph Braß examines the consequences of racial hygienic thinking from 1935 to 1945 using the Saarland as an example. In so doing, he systematically analyses the incidents pertaining to the scope of forced sterilization of the mentally ill and disabled. Additionally, he exemplarily portrays the events leading up to the euthanasia of patients from the Saarland as well as the course of its progression and results. The study is impressive and the large number of cases provided as examples provokes dismay. The book fills an important gap in the research on National Socialism.Downloads
