The online portal Gender Index, presented by the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning and the Hans Böckler Foundation, displays for each area of the Federal Republic a measure for the calculation of equal opportunities for women and men. The index project addresses itself to those involved at the regional level in order to provide the numbers on local situations. It is based on data from 2006 and is largely static, both with regard to the data as well as to the maps and charts. The construction of the index and its 19 indicators testifies to the deliberate and gender-politically enlightened considerations of the project’s creators. However, it is only limitedly suited for use as a research instrument, for it is primarily a restricted instrument that is static and narrowly implementable in terms of its content.Downloads
