The collected volume at hand pursues the question as to what contribution Gender Studies and Media Studies can and should make to discussions in the life sciences (in the sense of the sciences de la vie). The volume sets up a large frame of reference in its emphasis on the 20th century and in very heterogeneous articles it attempts to tease out points of overlap between the three aforementioned areas. Although the common problem is not always easily determined, many of the articles might provoke further interdisciplinary examination. This is particularly the case where the volume is successful in showing how the knowledge of life, for example in the medium of film, is entangled with the category of gender and thus affects media and forms or disturbs bio-political apparatuses.Downloads
