Abstract

Using the example of the Weimar Republic, the book re-reads the stereotypical connection between femininity and fashion from the perspective of cultural studies. Little-known source material from fashion journalism, ready-to-wear film (Konfektionsfilm), and the white-collar novel (Angestelltenroman) is used show that in the area of fashion, engaged women served not only as mass-media objects, but also were themselves active in the modern Weimar culture of attractions.
